At Advocate for Me, the most important role of the Key Worker is to build a supportive, respectful connection with the family and primary caregivers. The focus is on the child in the context of the family and community, rather than the child in isolation. Taking time to understand the family’s circumstances, routines, interests and values as a basis for supporting and coaching the family finds ways of promoting the development of the child’s competencies in their home life, educational settings and community.
The role focuses on five areas:
- Emotional Support
- Information and advice
- Identifying and addressing
- Advocacy
- Service coordination
At Advocate for Me, the family-centred approach is viewed as pivotal to achieving positive outcomes for your child. We celebrate the fact that all family circumstances are unique and we have a deep respect for individual family, cultural and religious values. Our approach is relational, that is, we care about the connections we develop with your child, family members and the team around them.
We appreciate the importance of building the capacity, efficacy and advocacy skills of all family members and our expertise is in educating, coaching and supporting to achieve positive outcomes.
